Four Individual Wins, Relay Victory Help 'Cats Close Out Bobcat Invitational

Seven individual first-place finisheds joined a win in the 4x400 men's relay

SAN MARCOS, TexasWill Blaser, Ronnie Briscoe, Jr., Alyssa Wilson and Dominick Yancy all earned first-place individual finishes on the final day of the Bobcat Invitational on Saturday as the Bobcats as a group turned in eight total victories over the three-day meet at the Texas State Track & Field Complex.

Blaser, Briscoe, Jr. and Wilson all picked up their victories in field events. Blaser posted a season-best in the shot put (17.49m) while Briscoe, Jr. notched a PR in the triple jump (15.02m). Wilson fell just short of matching in her season best in the shot put (16.17m).

Yancy, meanwhile, took advantage of the windy conditions and won the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.34. While it may have been wind-aided, the 10.34 time would be seventh-best in program history.

Yancy also led off the 4x400 men's relay team that picked up a first-place finish. Yancy gave the group a substantial lead in the first leg, while Avery Veiseh, Dre'Quan Crawford, and Brian West closed out the victory as they finished with a time of 3:13.56.

The eight Texas State wins were in a field of more than 40 schools represented. Wilson had three first-place finishes by herself – including two school record-setting performances in the hammer throw and discus – and Yancy had a pair of wins in the 100 and 200 meters.

The Bobcats also set 11 PRs on Saturday – with all but two of these registered in a non-wind aided setting.

Texas State returns to action next week with the Battle on the Bayou in Baton Rouge, La. on April 1-2. The two-day meet is set to take place at the Bernie Moore Track Stadium.
